It was shocks galore as England players and pro's found it tough going at Phoenix Cue Sports.  With many top players wanting to get their hands on the prize money it was never going to be easy.  First of the big name casualties was Bayden Jackson who fell to Mathew Newell 6-4 but the real carnage started in round 2.  Fellow England international Liam Stanley went down 6-5 to Lee Mason and he was followed by Adam Foyster losing to Lee Brown.  However the biggest shock was top IPA tourist Aaron Roberts was beaten 6-1 by Derbyshire Player Craig Lakin.  Liam Bullock was only a 6-5 victor over Derbyshire County Champion Paul Smith and Lee Pickard came through an all Nott's clash against Steve Hotchkiss 6-4.

In Round 3 Sheffield's Mark Singleton sent another top IPA tourist home in Liam Farrell 6-3 and Craig Lakin beat Steve Bennett 6-5.  Manchester's Steve Hewlett who is has been one of the most consistent players at PPP events over the last 12 months beat Lee Pickard 6-2 and Andy Bingham's day was ended by Liam Bullock 6-2.  The Quarter Finals took a very unfamiliar look top ranked 2007 player Gary Mitchell who had been quietly going about his work beat Mark Singleton by a convincing 6-2 score line.  He was followed through to the Semi's by Jamie Symons who beat Lee Mason 6-4.  The bottom half of the draw saw England & Nott's player Clint I' Anson beat Craig Lakin 6-3 and his semi final opponent would be Liam Bullock who edged out Steve Hewlett 6-5.  Gary Mitchell proved his number one ranked status was totally deserved as he overcome a final frame decider to beat Jamie Symons 6-5.  Clint I'Anson then edged out Liam Bullock 6-4 to set up what should have been a mouth watering clash.  However due to a rather bad car smash directly outside the venue both players decided to split the winnings.  It was a bit of an anti climax but the best two players on the day reached the final.
